Trekking and Cycling Adventures

Responsible Travel and important points:

Trekking Adventures aims to give sustainable travel adventures that are beneficial to the culture of local communities, the environment and the mountains of the countries visited

Porter Safety:

Our policy is that we allow each porter to carry only one backpack per person on all our treks.  While most companies allow their porters to carry two and sometimes three large packs (loads of up to 60kgs), Trekking Adventures 100% ensure that our porters are never abused in this way.  Porters have a very kind and generous nature, can be desperate for work and are often forced to carry heavy loads just to get work and earn a living for their families

Who are the guides, leaders and porters?

All tours are personally run by Trekking Adventure’s director, Ann Young, or a representative of Trekking Adventures.  All our leaders and local guides have been hand picked and trained by Ann to ensure the highest possible standards of service. Your trek leader will always be the person best suited to trekker needs and numbers.

We believe that to be a responsible travel business, giving something back to the locals  is essential.  Ann is assisted by a team of experienced locally recruited guides, porters and drivers which have been chosen with care. These local guides and porters are only too happy to share their wealth of local knowledge, local customs and traditions. Our leaders, guides and porters communicate Trekking Adventures values to all of our groups on educating sustainable tourism practices which  are low impact on the local  communities  and the mountains.

Giving back:

How many people will be in the group?

Trip numbers for both the trekking groups and tours will be kept to a maximum of 12 people (with the exception of our cruises). This ensures not only the safety of the group but gives each client the comfort and attention they deserve. There are however  a couple of cycling trips plus our private trips, where the numbers can be a bit more flexible.

What does walking in a group involve?

All Trekking Adventures trips are group based and therefore we trek or cycle and move as a group. It is possible in most cases to have a short distance from the person in front or behind you, however due to the safety aspect  associated with altitude in the mountains it is very important to be within sight of your trekking companions at all times. There will be plenty of time for photo opportunities during your trek and also to check out local sights and markets independently after arriving at your overnight stop.

How fit do I need to be?

Anyone who is reasonably active, whether an absolute beginner or a seasoned traveller should cope with most of the Trekking Adventures trips provided they are prepared to do some training.  We provide a suggested training programme to help you prepare you for your chosen adventure. This ensures that every team member has the opportunity to share and enjoy the environment and culture that surrounds them.

Most trekking days are short however on some trips there may be some days that are quite long eg when we go to Everest Base Camp, or up to Kala Pattar and over some mountain passes.  We walk slowly, which gives every opportunity to acclimatise to altitude in order to reach the desired goals.

Extra safety & cultural inclusions:

Trekking Adventures have built in extra acclimatisation days for all  their high altitude trips. This gives team members the best opportunity of reaching their goals and destinations with mimimum risk . We further include many extra local sightseeing experiences and visits to make sure you get to enjoy and share with the locals and learn about the history of the countries visited. Our trips are timed to depart on the days of the week which will allow you to see the likes of Namache Bazzar market on the Everest region treks. You get to go to the schools & hospitals,  research stations and have extra days at Gorak Shep. You get to visit Goyko Ri and  5th lake without having to fit these into an overnight stay and long days of trekking. These are all included in your trip itineraries. We strive to give you the best experiences possible, which is for some, a once in a life time opportunity.
