Sapa & Heavens Gate Cycle - 12 days

 We start our tour with a days sightseeing in Hanoi followed by an overnight train to Lao Cai – (the northwest), known as ‘The roof of Vietnam’ where the Hoang Lien Mountains (Tonkinese Alps) soar to over 3,000 metres and where some of Vietnam’s most spectacular scenery is to be found.
Visiting the famous Bac Ha markets and mix with the  locals who still dress in their traditional colourful costumes on a daily basis. 

This trip includes a overnight trek near Sapa staying with a local family. We then take a 3 day cycle trip mostly on quiet roads, through rural villages in the north where very few tourist venture, seeing the local culture first hand.

No visit to Vietnam would be complete without a overnight stay on a Traditional Chinese Junk cruising in Halong Bay. Here you will have the opportunity to kayak (optional)around the impressive islands which are the most spectacular and romantic of all Vietnam’s natural wonders.

A visit to the World Heritage site of the Sung Sot Caves is one of the most beautiful and amazing under ground rock formations I have seen. We will also visit a floating pearl farm to see how these gems are harvested. (have your purse ready).
From the emerald waters, 3,000 islands rise steeply to create a dramatic seascape of this impressive area, we then transfer to Cat Ba Beach resort for a night in the Cat Bac National Park before to finishing off in Hanoi.

Day 1: Hanoi – overnight train to Lao Cai
Day 2: On arrival at Lao Cai transfer to Bac ha – Sapa
Day 3: Sapa – Taphin – trekking – Home stay
Day 4: Taphin – Sapa – 1/2 day trekking – Sapa
Day 5: Sapa – Than Uyen  (cycling)
Day 6:Than Uyen  – Van Ban (cycling)
Day 7: Van Ban – Sapa – (cycling)
Day 8: Sapa – transfer to Lao Cai  for evening  overnight train to Hanoi
Day 9: Arrival in Hanoi – Halong Bay – Traditional Junk
Day 10: Halong Bay / Traditional Junk  (optional kayaking) – Cat Ba Beach Resort (optional trek / kayaking/ swimming)
Day 11: Cat Ba Beach Resort resort – Hanoi
Day 12 Hanoi
