Upper Mustang Cycle - 16 days

The Mustang valley was closed to foreigners until 1992 and this ‘Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang dates back over a thousand years. It is situated on the southern tip of the Tibetan Plateau and boarders the Annapurna region of Nepal. We enter the Mustang valley through Kagbeni in the Kali Gandaki Valley.
The local Gurung and Sherpa people in this wild landscape are very friendly and still rich in the ancient Kingdoms native tradition.
The bike ride is mostly along jeep tracks to reach the walled city of Lo Manthang which is considered the crown jewel of the Upper Mustang. We will spend a rest day in Lo Manthang with the opportunity to visit the local Monastery and take a side trip by horse back to visit some amazing caves which are thousands of years old.
We will return to Kagabeni, biking via the religious site of the scared Hindu temple of Muktinath where we will see pilgrims flocking to pray.
The ride will continue from here down the Kali Gandaki valley to Tatopani where we can bathe in the hot springs, then onto Beni and back to Pokhara, finishing in Kathmandu
The Himalayan mountains surround us at every turn, with great views of Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna 1, Bhrikuti and the East face of Dhaulagiri. Just amazing.
The Upper Mustang cycling trip will indeed make for a humbling experience and a holiday of a lifetime.
