Mongolian Wilderness Trek - 17 Days

The Altai Mountain range is remote region with demanding terrain and passes however these are at the lower altitude of approximate 3,000 metres.
The rugged Altai Mountain Range forms the border between Mongolia and China, much of it within the 6,362 square kilometres of Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. This spectacular wilderness of snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and alpine grasslands is the haunt of giant elk and argali mountain sheep, where wolves, bears and snow leopards still roam.
The uninhabited heart of the mountains is accessible only on foot and by horse. This is true wilderness, with the only tracks being those used by the horse mounted border patrol, and game. On this trek we will use packhorses to carry our equipment, camping at the end of each day. You will be trekking where few outsiders have been before. In 2015 we will taking a new route through terrain!
Horses have always been a part of the culture since before the days of Genghis Khan, so at the end of each day once we have made camp the horses will be available to ride, for those who are keen.
We will be invited in to the local gers (or yurts, the iconic round felt tent of Central Asia), to drink tea and eat unidentifiable but delicious foods. These are the families of the people accompanying us on the trek and it is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in a culture unaffected by tourism and the outside world, in a way that is rare today.
