Helambu and Gosainkund trek  starts just 1 hour north of Kathmandu and is pure Himalayan trekking magic. This area has traditional culture, great views and links Helambu with Gosainkund and sacred lakes of Saraswati, Bhairav and of course the Gosainkund lake which is near Lauribinayak pass at 4,610 metres. Hundreds of people come during August to worship and bathe in the lakes during full moon. There is a rock in the centre of Gosainkund lake that resembles a Shiva linga, the sacred symbol of Hindu creation. Pilgrims often say they can see Shiva reclining on a bed of serpents in the lakes water. There are more than 100 lakes in the area(if you have the time and energy to extend your visit.
This trek brings outstanding mountain views of the Langtang Valley to Mt Langtang Lirung, the Annapurna’s, Manasalu, (8,156 metres), Ganesh Himal (7,406 metres).
Helambu – Gosainkund circuit trek sees fewer trekkers than the Everest and Annapurna regions which can be a bonus for some.
This area also offers a longer trekking season March – May with spring offering a blaze of colour in April when the Rhododendrons  and wild alpine flowers come out, while September to November brings clear skies which is great for photography.
